Glass Roof

One of the most effective and popular ways to improve your home is with a glass roof. M.R.Windows are proud to offer a range of roof glass solutions which are not only expertly designed and installed, but utterly luxurious and aspirational. Our glass roof systems are a practical and visually elegant addition to a home or commercial property.

Modern glazing technology has come a long way, and using cutting-edge techniques we’re now able to design and install completely seamless, frameless glass roofs. This enables our clients to reap all the benefits of natural light, and to enjoy totally unobstructed views of the outdoors, which only a glazed roof system can provide.

When you add a glass roof, natural light cascades into your property, reducing electricity costs and providing you with a host of wellbeing benefits. The gentle warmth of the sun emanates through the roof above, ensuring your interior retains a tranquil temperature. Workspaces, kitchens and other living areas are transformed, helping your home or property achieve a timeless quality.

We offer both fixed and opening roof glazing systems – Imagine the soft breeze keeping your home ventilated on those sunny days when you can prop these stunning glass roofs open; picture how a fixed glazed roof panel could transform your interiors, completely revolutionising the look and feel of your home.

With multiple designs and installations available, from single roof panels all the way to fixed supported glazing, a Cantifix rooflight is more than just a window to the outside, it’s a window into a life of modern luxury.

One panel roof

we know that often, the most elegant designs are the simplest. Bearing this in mind, when it comes to our glass roof panes, it’s not surprising that our single panel roof is the product we install most frequently.simplicity isn’t synonymous with a lack of inspiration – it denotes refinement, subtlety, or a clear, bold statement.

Multi panel roof

We understand that every property is unique, every design is unique, and every client’s vision is unique. We proudly offer a variety of glazing solutions to make your dream designs a reality, and we don’t just offer the highest quality glass roof designs – we offer unique roof designs. For larger projects, our multi panel roofs present stunning potential.

Fixed supported roof

Seamless, uninterrupted views can be endlessly appealing, but are also somewhat restrictive in the designs they can accommodate – a supported glass roof isn’t restricted in this way. The supports and beams, as well as the joints, can be customised, and the result is an almost limitless variety of combinations, shapes, sizes and styles. Junctions can even be concealed, so if subtle elegance is to your taste, we can work this into the design.

Why install a glass roof?

So why choose a rooflight in the first place? What makes these installations so appealing, and what benefits do they offer a property? Understanding these concepts is an important and valuable step in establishing which kind of roof will suit your home or project most…

Glass roofs offer limitless customisability

It’s easy to assume glass roofs come in only a handful of options – opening or fixed, big or small. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. Glazing technology and production is now so advanced that specialists can design and install roofs with essentially limitless freedom.

This means glass roofs can be subtle or dramatic, designed to fit into almost any space, and they can be designed in any configuration of opening or fixed functionality. Roofs can slide open, pop-up, or pivot, and can be operated manually or remotely. They can also feature almost any kind of glass, including single, double, or even triple glazing.

Glass Roofs boost natural light

We all need natural light, on a daily basis, to feel our best. Our physical and psychological health are both dependent on a multitude of factors, of which natural light is an important one. It directly impacts our body’s ability to produce Vitamin D (which is important for our health), and consistent and regular exposure helps govern our circadian rhythms.

Glass roofs are one of the most effective ways of getting natural light into a space. By offering a portal to the sky from directly above (rather than at a horizontal angle, as with a window), glass roofs flood interior spaces with natural light. They’re a fantastic way to make an interior space more conducive to wellbeing.

True luxury aesthetic

Glass roofs also offer an opportunity to add an authentic luxury aesthetic flair to a property. This is a factor that is dependent on the design, but that proves one of the most compelling propositions for many homeowners.

Using toughened glass, the completely frameless and seamless designs we can now create are evocative of an aspirational lifestyle, and are almost certain to draw the eye in almost any home or space. Whatever the character of a given property, the unobtrusive nature of a glass roof often makes it the perfect luxury addition.

Increase property value

One of the goals of many homeowners is for their home to, eventually, make them some money. Ensuring a property grows in value is a priority for many homeowners, and simply holding out hope for natural growth in market value isn’t always enough. By adding new features to your home – particularly those that make it more efficient, or more visually appealing – you can greatly increase it’s financial worth.

A glass roof can be the perfect installation for this kind of boost to value. This is particularly true if the roof is unique, structural, and beautiful (the better a glass roof looks and the more well-built it is, the more it adds to a home in terms of worth!). While there are no hard and fast calculations to measure any potential increases by (there are too many variables), consultation with an architect or specialist can give you more of an insight.

FAQ’s

What types of glass are available for windows?

You may be surprised by the number of glass options for your new windows, and it is important to understand which would be best suited for your requirements. Standard glass is called ‘Low E’ and is a great all round option for energy efficiency. Low Iron glass offers high clarity and energy efficiency. Toughened glass is five times stronger than regular glass and laminated glass, contains a plastic interlayer offering better insulation and resistance against damage.

What is double glazing?

Double-glazed windows comprise of two panes of glass that are separated by a spacer bar. The layer of air or gas sandwiched between the panes provides an insulation barrier against noise and heat loss, helping you to maintain a warmer, quieter home.

How long do windows last?

There is no reason why quality windows can’t last for the lifetime of the property if well maintained. However, not all windows are created equally, for example timber windows will require some maintenance to maintain paintwork. Invariably this comes down to personal preference lower quality windows for example may have no gas between the panes limiting their effectiveness at reducing warmth in a room. Others may use poor quality seals which perish and result in draughts after around 10 years.

What window colours are available?

At M.R.Windows we offer a beautiful range of colours and natural woodgrain finishes, so there is a perfect colour to suit every property. Colours range from the traditional white uPVC finish, through to Chartwell Green and ultra-contemporary anthracite grey or black. Add a modern twist to your windows, with dual colours, complementing the inside and outside of your home.

Does double glazing reduce condensation?

Condensation is caused by a temperature difference between the outside and the inside of the window – the colder side will attract any available moisture in the local atmosphere. It can appear on both the interior and exterior of a window. New windows really should solve the problem by reducing the exterior and interior temperature difference on the glass. The risk can be reduced further by increasing air circulation.

How does double glazing reduce noise?

Using double glazing in your home can reduce the energy of sound waves and help reduce the volume of external noise from entering your home. By coupling double glazed units with Acoustic glass you can increase sound proofing further. This can make a significant difference when you suffer with noise pollution.

How much do new windows cost?

The cost of new windows is dependent on so many factors such as style and materials. Many websites do offer lists of prices of their double glazed windows, but these are usually the cost for a basic off-the-shelf window and often without the cost of installation. At M.R.Windows, our products are made-to-measure and customised to your taste and home, which is why you won’t find a price online as there are too many contributing factors.
