What are Bifold Doors?

A bifold door opens by folding back panels, or leaves. The folding doors slide open and the panels fold up and stack against the wall. Also known as concertina doors, folding doors or panoramic doors, external bifold doors help you make the most of the space in your home. Depending on the number of panels and configuration you choose, bi folding doors can have a primary door for daily use without having to slide all the panels open. Bifold doors make a brilliant alternative to traditional French doors or sliding patio doors to create a gateway between your home and your garden.

Advantages of Bifold Doors

Spectacular views

Bring a little of the outdoors-in with a conservatory with bifold doors. Admire the view of your garden from your conservatory or extension with doors that maximise the natural light flooding your home.

Security

Our bifold doors feature a locking system spread over multiple points of the sliding track and a Yale 3-star cylinder lock on the primary door. High security hinges, toughened glass and glazing beads on the inside prevent the glass being removed from the outside.

Great for any size property

Bifold patio doors take up very little space when they are open. It’s in the name – they fold away neatly. This makes them the perfect option for both small and large openings.

Thermally efficient

Our bi folding doors have a thermal break to help keep the cold out. The large panes of glass let the natural heat of the sun flood your home.

Designer doors

Get creative and choose from over 200 RAL colours. Our long-lasting powder coat finish means our folding doors offer a vibrancy that won’t wear out.

FAQ’s

What colours are available for front doors?

At Everest, we offer a beautiful range of colours and natural woodgrain finishes, so there is a perfect colour to suit every property. Colours range from classic black through to more contemporary colours such as beach pebble to help you create a stylish statement entrance to your home.

Are front doors with glass safe?

Yes glass doors are safe, the glass used in Everest glazed doors are fitted with 6.8mm laminated glass as standard, which makes breaking the glass incredibly difficult. Our laminated security glass surpasses every security standard with the extra layer of laminate holding the shards in place should the glass break and ensuring there is no hole left for an intruder to pass through.

Do I need planning permission to change my front door?

You can change the front door of your property without needing planning approval. However, it is always advisable to speak to your local authority, as there may be conditions attached to previous permissions or covenants covering what you can and cannot do.

How much do doors cost?

A large number of variables influence the price of a door including material, construction, if locks and hardware have been added and if the installation is included. The cheapest doors are sold as basic slabs – just the door leaf with no finish or hardware added. All M.R.Windows front doors are sold as door sets that come pre-assembled with the frame locks and all hardware in place and we then include the cost of installation.

Do front doors need to be fire resistant?

As long as the front door for a house is a direct route to the outside it doesn’t need to be fire rated. But, this can be dependent on the proximity of the boundary and the distance of adjacent buildings. Apartments, flats and properties accessed through a common area must have fire rated front doors to stop the spread of fire between properties. They must also have a thumb-operated lock on the inside of the door for means of escape.
